Rural Gympie and Sunshine Coast

There are 2 main placement sites in this region where you may be based during your GP training: Rural Gympie Area and Sunshine Coast Area. 

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service is the major provider of public health services, health education and research in the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Noosa local government areas.

The Sunshine Coast HHS provides services through Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Nambour General Hospital, Caloundra Health Service, Gympie Hospital and Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital and provide a comprehensive range of sub-acute, ambulatory and extended care, community health, mental health and oral health services, and an aged care services at the Glenbrook Residential Aged Care Facility.

Rural Gympie Area

Locations in this placement site include Gympie, Pomona, Cooroy, Imbil, and Cooloola Coast.

The Gympie region is a region of contrasts, powdery white-sand beaches, unspoiled coastlines, majestic hinterlands, lush rolling hills and stunning nature all around. To the east is the Cooloola Coast, home to Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay and the closest gateway to K’Gari Fraser Island.    To the west are the pioneering towns of Kilkivan and Goomeri and, to the south, the lush rural communities of Mary Valley home to a variety of fresh local produce.  In the middle, is the commercial hub and heritage town, Gympie City, which the region is named after and home to the famous Gympie Music muster.

Sunshine Coast Area

The third most populated area in Queensland, located 100km north of the centre of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast urban area spans appx 60km of coastline and hinterland from Pelican Waters to Tewantin and is renowned for its surf beaches, hinterland villages and rainforests, national parks, sporting events and, cultural festivals.

Locations in this placement site include Beerwah, Landsborough, Buderim, Caloundra, Eumundi, Maleny, Maroochydore, Montville, Nambour, Noosa, and Yandina.
