2021 Welcome to new registrars

15th January 2021

We look forward to an exciting and dynamic year of 2021, and welcome the 151 new registrars starting with General Practice Training at James Cook University (JCU).

Let us acknowledge and affirm the current NAIDOC theme of "always was.. always will be... aboriginal land" that we share, and we give our thanks and respects to Northwestern Queensland's original custodians, past, present and emerging.

It is great to work collaboratively with ACRRM and RACGP to deliver high quality education, training and support to the respective college’s vocational training standards, curriculum and assessment requirements

At JCU GP training we do this through a technologically-enabled regionally distributed model of specialist post-graduate GP Training. Training is centred on your clinical experiences in your training posts, under the guidance of experienced supervisors.

This is supplemented with JCUGP and regional training node education activities.

Much work by a wonderful JCUGP team has already occurred in selection, educational planning, pre-entry meetings, and organising clinical placements even before the first day of GP training or the 2021 educational year.

For those registrars starting their first community GP clinical training terms, it is exciting to come together for the JCUGP introductory workshops on Monday 18th January 2021, meet other colleagues, and start the orientation in your clinical practices.

Think of your involvement with JCU GP training as an educational partnership - the more you contribute as adult learners, the more you will benefit.

We look forward to working with you during 2021.

A/Prof Dr Lawrie McArthur
Director - JCU GP training
